Description
Here we have what looks like a dress/court sword from the 19th century, possibly from Eastern Europe or the Balkans. The eagle on the shell guard looks very Polish or maybe Prussian to me. Wire-wrapped grip, pillow/urn pommel, and an engraved blade that had some rust previously but it’s been cleaned off. The thin spadroon-style blade terminates in a very sharp needle-like point. The style of engraving/etching is of a type found in some of the smaller city-states of continental Europe in the second half of the 19th century. An interesting piece for sure.
