Stainless steel flange nuts have a wide flange under the hex that acts as a washer which helps to evenly distribute pressure over the parts being secured as to not cause damage and making it less likely to loosen this type of lock nut uses displacement to provide a tight fit and requires slightly less torque when installing.
Hex washer heads have 6 sides with an indented top surface and a washer that protrudes beyond the hex that increases the bearing surface as well as reducing the likelihood of crushing the mating surfaces.
External hex drives can be turned with an adjustable wrench, combination wrench and 6- or 12-point sockets and offers high torque transfer.
