    Description

This precious slip gown was created by Kayser around 1956 and was sold under the Luxite by Kayser label. It is long and cut from a light-weight, soft blue acetate. Bodice has a sweetheart neckline trimmed in a sheer poly-chiffon and scalloped, embroidered, blue lace that is printed with tiny pink rosebuds. Straps are chiffon and lace, 2.75” (7cm)s-wide. So, so pretty. It is gathered with cat whiskers under the breasts, fitted smoothly around the chest with a peak between the breast for definition. Has a rounded scoop in the back at the mid-back. Waist is gathered with whiskering at the natural waistline. The label says size 34 (please see measurements). Original tag in the left seam of gown.
Condition: Gown is good condition. No snags or holes and the stitching is sound. There are faint age spotting on the right breast and just below. Possibly from being displayed in a shop window. It is hard to see, but please look closely at photos. Gown is priced accordingly.

KAYSER: Julius Kayser founded his silk glove company, Julius Kayser & Co., in New York in 1880. By 1908 the company was advertising their black silk hosiery, in addition to their ‘famous silk gloves.’ 1955 saw a consolidation of enterprises under one roof at 425 Fifth Avenue. The divisions of Kayser & Co. that were slated to occupy space in the new fashion center were the Kayser Division, at 500 Fifth Avenue since 1932, maker of ladies’ lingerie, hosiery, fabric clothes, children’s underwear and sleepwear. In 1956 ads began to appear for Luxite-Kayser lingerie. The latest ad found for Luxite-Kayser was in 1960 and the last US/Canadian ad found for Kayser was a 1966 ad for a nylon nightgown.
